What exactly do you do when your computer commits Sebbuku? And for those of you rthat don't know: That is Japanese Ritual Suicide.
I was having a few problems with my computer being crashy. I checked all te systems, virus possibilities as well as possible hard drive failure. After a few days I narrowed the problem down to some RAM that had gone bad. Once I had removed the offending DIMM the computer functioned quite well, except for a bit of sluggishness now that it was working at half speed.
Four days later I decided that I didn't want the litle beast to work with half her previous mental capacity. So, I went down to the local computer store and bought a new DIMM for her. Once I placed the new RAM in I supposed that everything would be fine.
I was wrong. The new ram didn't work nor did the computer restart afterward. I removed the new stuff and decided to check if I had possibly pulled the wrong chips. I placed the new RAM in the first slot and pressed the power button.
Nothing... At first.
Shortly ther after I smelled the slightest hint of burnt plastic. Not a smell I was unfamiliar with but one that was most uncommon when repairing a computer. I looked inside to see the plastic sticker on my new RAM shriveling and smoking.
FIRE!!!!!!
Yes, my computer actually smoked and to add to the event I noticed black charring over the first ram slot now confirming that bad RAM was no longer my only problem. So I'll be heading over to the not so local computer store to pick up a new Motherboard, Chip, RAM and whatever else I think I'm going to need to get the little gal working again.
So, a reminder to all.
First: Smoke pouring from your computer is a bad thing.
Second: Your housemates computer always sucks and is never as good as your own even if you're just writing text.

Anyway...thanks, and I hope you are feeling well.
